Why I Love Howell, Michigan and Downtown Howell

Please note:  This also includes Marion Twp and Oceola Twp which are included in the Howell, Michigan zip codes.

The Howell Conference and Nature Center is located at 1005 Triangle Lake Road.  It’s a little off the beaten path but well worth the extra drive.  They have a Wild Wonders Wildlife Park where you can take a self-guided tour to see birds and animals.  Field trips and summer camps are popular here for the kids.

Downtown Historic Howell. You will find the Howell Carnegie District Library which is over 100 years old and named after Andrew Carnegie who donated money to the library.  You must visit this building to appreciate it.  In downtown Howell you will also find treat shops like the Candy Bar, Uptown Coffee House which has wonderful hot chocolate too, the “Heart of Michigan” store with “Made in Michigan” products, and lots of restaurants and shopping throughout downtown Howell.

Howell has numerous events and festivals during the year including these popular ones:

The Michigan Challenge (Hot Air) Balloon Fest scheduled June 26-28, 2015 will be held at the Howell High School Complex.  There will be a Carnival here as well.

The 55th Annual Melon Fest will be held August 14-16, 2015.  The Doc May Memorial Melon Ride will be on August 15, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 11 am and is a 15 mile bike ride through Howell.  There is also a Melon Run.  At 3 pm and 9 pm is the Melon Fest Movie Guardians of the Galaxy at the Historic Howell Theatre.  The locally grown melons are the best here!

The Headless Horseman Race held near Halloween draws visitors from all over.  You run in the dark along Thompson Lake and through the Cemetery.  Everyone wears glows sticks.  If you have never ran/walked a race in the dark, I encourage you to do so.  I also highly recommend the Fantasy of Lights Parade held the day after Thanksgiving (“Black Friday”) and the Fantasy 5K run held at dark the same day.

Howell, Michigan area real estate.  Whether you want to live in the country on acreage, on or near a lake like the popular Thompson Lake, in a newer built subdivision, or in a condo or historic home in downtown Howell, there is something for everyone in Howell, Michigan real estate.  Search for Howell MI homes and condos.

The Tanger Outlet stores are located in Howell, MI right off I-96.  My favorites are Under Armour and Nike since I enjoy working out.  Popular stores also include Coach, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger and many different shoe stores.   It is well worth it to pay the small fee to be part of the Tanger Club and get a coupon book which is good for many different stores.  I advise bringing snacks and drinks as the food court is shut down and food is limited at the Outlet Center.  My favorite restaurant close to Tanger is Tomato Bros which is at the corner of Grand River Ave and M-59, just east of the Outlet center.  You will find pasta dishes, the most delicious bread, fish, chicken, BBQ ribs and more.   There are several hotels located close to the Tanger Outlet mall if you are coming from out of town.

Howell, Michigan is convenient to I-96 with many interchanges from the expressway.
